Citaat:"I don't want to just tell horses what to do and then they just comply, because they are frightened to that's not it all, violence will not be a part of my procedure here today and there will be no horse told to or he will be hurt won't happen," Monty said.
At Equitana Monty took on three horses - the first was an unbroken two year old mare called Penny.
She was calmly carrying a saddle, bridle, and rider after 30 minutes... Proof Monty says that the most traumatic day in a horse's life needn't be the day it's broken in.
The bucking racehorse Mudahada was next.
"This is a difficult horse and a dangerous one," Monty said.
Fitted with a mouth to saddle, nylon rope "buckstopper", Mudahada discovered bucking hurt.
Then a dummy was legged aboard - Mudahada had a good try, but the unconcerned rider, with the low pulse rate and no fear, didn't budge.
The gelding eventually decided bucking hurt and was a waste of time.
He was won over in the end and accepted a man on his back.
Next was every rider's nightmare - a horse that just won't load.
Well 18 hand Wilbur quickly fell under Monty's spell and loaded... Over and over ...
"Oh Wilbur he's been messing with your mind all this time he loves trailers what is the deal," Monty said.
The crowd loved it... And Wilbur's owner was very relieved
"I thought that was fantastic considering Wilbur is an absolute handful in floating and the amount of time it took Monty to get him on the float was incredible. I thought he could do it but I thought it would take longer than it did," Karina, Wilbur's owner, said.
For people who don't know anything about yr work can you tell us what join up is?
"Well join up is a title and it came from that moment when the horse decides to be with me rather than away from me that's the moment. To call my entire body of work join up is okay if that's the title and what it means is asking and not demanding," Monty said.
Is that moment of join up still special?
"Every horse that comes to me and trusts me it just causes the hair to stand up on the back of my neck and the gratification I feel from it is just overwhelming," He said
Can you remember when the light bulb went off over yr head & you realised there was a diff way to train a horse?
"Like it was yesterday. He was an American Mustang and when he let me know that I could communicate with horses in an interspecies fashion I was stunned and I went who's going to apologise to this species for 8000 yrs of misunderstanding I remember that day as if it was a few hours ago," Monty said.
What you worked out can everybody do it or is there a special factor that only partic horsemen and women can do it?
"No, no, no, most anybody can do it," Monty said.
With Monty came the merchandise - books that have sold millions, videos, and a special $60 halter.
